Watoto Kicheko Children’s Center has been set up in Arusha, Tanzania to help local children who have special needs that can not adequately be met in their communities. The Watoto Kicheko Children’s Center provides a haven for Tanzanian children by working closely with the local authority and local communities.
We provide schooling, healthcare, a caring home life, love and security for these most vulnerable of children. Over the past two years many of our children have returned to their communities and have been replaced by other children.
A number of draft policy, procedure and report documents are available on request; click here for a list of documents.
The vision of Watoto Kicheko for the children who will reside with us is to provide for them a fun and loving home life in which they can learn to take care of themselves. Some will only be with us for a short time. But others will be with us for much or all of their childhood. Some may require training after they have finished school and some others may wish to go to university.
Watoto Kicheko’s mission is to run an orphanage for 14 abandoned and at-risk children, from birth to 18 years. We will provide housing, food and education, including third level education, for all of the children in our care. Watoto Kicheko works actively with local authorities, the social welfare office and communities to return children back to their families whenever feasible. We provide some support for families in the community, when required. The Center will encourage and support fostering and adoption of the children by suitable families. (Our full Mission and Vision statements can be found on a separate page.)
Children who can not go back to their families or community will stay until they become adults. The Watoto Kicheko Center will build a ‘village’, where children will live in small family units. There will be an agreed parent figure for each family unit. Our sponsorship programme is designed to create the village and the community to help our children grow up and become responsible adults.
Do we want to change the world ? Nope ! But, these kids will !
Do we have fun loving these children? You bet! It is wonderful to spend time with them, see them laugh and enjoy life; no more, no less, but just because we love doing so.
